Government(s) Ka tamasha dekho

I’m sure that you all might be cheering for your favourite Indian Premier League team along with the infamous skin clad cheerleaders. Now you will have more off those girls for company cheering for your team…Its all thanks to Maharashtra Governments kindness…its all set to waive crores in entertainment tax that the Indian Premier League cricket matches would normally attract. The direct beneficiaries of this scheme will be millionaires and billionaires…no rewards for guessing…most of them are based in Mumbai. Those Kings and queens of bollywood and the industrial tycoons did not find it difficult to spend crores of rupees in auctions for buying teams and players for what is called as the “world’s richest cricket tournament”. If the governments proposal goes through the IPL bigwigs will be getting tax waivers on many things including hiring cheer leaders.

This kind of largesse and kindness is shown by the government of a State where the nation’s most distraught farmers live in regions of Vidharbha. Yes indeed…they also had been given tax waivers in plenty…politicians speak about those waivers at length to gain maximum advantage and to garner that strong farmer vote bank.
But most of the farmers won’t be able to enjoy those tax benefits. The reason behind it is that there is a cut off imposed by the govt for being eligible for the tax waiver. No farmer who owns more than two acres of land is not eligible for it and most of the farmers in Vidharba owns more than two acres !

Here the irony is that the drought hit distressed farmers are “Too-big” and the billionaire IPL bosses are “Too small”! I have never heard of IPL bosses committing suicide in India and I don’t think there will ever be one…but those agitated, panic-stricken farmers have now got a new reason for continuing their suicide spree– that they are “Too-Big”.
